The O-1 visa is for non-immigrants who are seeking employment in the US and who have extraordinary ability in the arts, sciences, education, business or athletics that has been demonstrated by sustained national or international acclaim. An advisory opinion attesting to the applicant's extraordinary ability must be written by a peer group or a person of expertise in the applicant's field.
Through an advisory opinion - which highlights the applicant's ability and achievements in the field of endeavor, the nature of the duties to be performed and explains whether the employment position sought requires an individual of extraordinary ability - the applicant must illustrate that their extraordinary ability is of "a level of expertise indicating that the person is one of a small percentage who have risen to the very top of the field of endeavor."
