The K-1 visa, also known as the Fiancée visa, is a nonimmigrant visa classification for aliens coming to the United States to marry American citizens and reside in the US with their respective spouses. Until the marriage takes place the fiancé(e) is considered a non-immigrant and enters the US on a temporary basis. If the K-1 visa is issued, the marriage must take place within 90 days of the fiancé(e) entering the US.
After the marriage occurs, the individual may then apply for a Green Card through marriage in order to become a US citizen. Minor children of the nonimmigrant fiancées can also accompany their parent to the United States as the children can be issued K-2 visas.
