The USCIS (United States Citizenship & Immigration Services) will begin accepting H-1B visa applications for the 2009 Fiscal year on April 1st, 2008. It is important to note that the USCIS has an H-1B visa cap of 65,000 per year (with some exceptions).
In 2007 the H-1B visa cap for fiscal year 2008 was reached on April 2nd, 2007, the very first day that H-1B applications were accepted. Many individuals were not able to file applications and were left out in the cold. If recent history is an indicator, it is likely that the H-1B cap will be reached just as quickly this year.
Due to the expected rush, it is advisable to begin your H-1B preparations as early as possible to ensure that your H-1B cases are ready to file on the first possible date.
